Linguistics is defined as "the scientific study of language and its structure, including the study of morphology, syntax, phonetics, and semantics." In other words, linguistics is the study of language itself; it is an analysis of how languages are formed and developed over time. Linguistics is an ever-growing field that is increasingly important to study due to its impact on several diverse areas. For example, in the medical field, studying developmental linguistics has helped us understand how children with autism process languages.
Although at Legato Lingua our main focus is to teach and introduce foreign languages to children, we are also extremely passionate about the field of linguistics. Part of our mission as an organization is to increase awareness of this rich and vast field, which is often unknown and misunderstood by many. Hence, we host often host seminars that are open to all ages, where we introduce the field and cover basic topics (see below for more information). These sessions will be offered in both English and Spanish. We hope to make an impact and influence more individuals to study linguistics in the future.
