Why Legato Lingua?

Language Matters

We Bridge the Gap

Language-learning is invaluable in the 21st century. Not only does knowing multiple languages have numerous benefits for one's learning capacity and memory, but it inspires us to travel and learn from other cultures. Legato Lingua's mission is to enable students to expand their cultural awareness and embrace diversity through the study of language. However, a low number of children are offered exposure to multiple languages early on. Here at Legato Lingua, we aim to provide language education to children to deepen these fundamental skills.
Language learning happens best at an early age because at that point the brain is developing the fastest, making it easier to obtain information and make long-term neural connections. Legato Lingua bridges the foreign language gap by starting classes at early ages with elementary school students, while children's brains are still malleable and they can easily adopt a second language. This way, students are set up for future success in learning languages. Moreover, the global exposure we offer through our curriculum sets up our students to become culturally competent, engaged, leaders of society.

What does "Legato Lingua" mean?

The name of our organization, "Legato Lingua" originates from Italian, a European Romance language which evolved from Vulgar Latin. "Legato" translates to "in a smooth, flowing manner" and "lingua" translates to language. Thus, together, "Legato Lingua" is defined as smooth, flowing language. Here at Legato Lingua, we appreciate the beauty in the natural sounds of language and how it seamlessly interconnects to form the basis of society.
